A chicken concept with its origins as a family-run restaurant in Guatemala is now making its way to South Carolina. Pollo Campero, a family endeavor, started back in 1971 and has expanded its flavors all over Central America and the U.S.

More Than Just Fried Chicken

In 2002, the very first U.S. establishment opened its doors in Los Angeles, marking the beginning of its American journey. Known predominantly for its mouthwatering, crispy fried chicken, Pollo Campero has evolved over time. Today, in addition to its famous fried chicken, they offer a delectable selection of grilled chicken, tantalizing chicken sandwiches, and an array of enticing sides. From classics like coleslaw and French fries to more exotic options like plantains and Campero beans and rice, the menu caters to a wide range of tastes.

But Pollo Campero doesn’t stop at chicken; their menu extends to include empanadas, refreshing salads, hearty bowls, and a range of beverages, such as horchata, mango, and Jamaica (hibiscus) tea.

South Carolina Expansion

Pollo Campero is setting its sights on South Carolina, with ambitious plans to open 10 new locations within the state over the next five years. Greenville is slated to welcome four of these fresh establishments. While the exact location of the inaugural Greenville store is yet to be determined, South Carolina’s first taste of Pollo Campero will be at 2615 Cherry Road in Rock Hill, according to Blas Escarcega, the director of franchise development.

Rock Hill Cheap Eats: El Molcajete

It’s worth noting that this restaurant location (previously Jack in the Box) in Rock Hill has seen a variety of businesses come and go over the years, making Pollo Campero’s venture there particularly intriguing. The chain is positioned to be a welcomed addition to the area, considering the current limited diversity in Latin cuisine offerings.

Pollo Campero serves as a fantastic fast food alternative with a diverse array of grilled chicken dishes, and their plantains have garnered their fair share of fans for their unique and delightful taste. So, if you’re in the mood for a culinary adventure, keep an eye out for the arrival of Pollo Campero in the area – it’s sure to be a hit.
