Discovery Place Kids will be one of your top places to visit in Charlotte if you’ve got kids under 10 at home. This children’s museum offers hours of educational fun with a multitude of different activities for little ones of all ages.
My most recent visit was in March 2021, It was in the Covid re-opening phases so plenty of social distancing measures were in place. One of the new rules is that you have to purchase your tickets in advance online and select a 1-hour arrival window. Admission is $11 for anyone over the age of 1 + a $3.99 NC state fee per transaction.
We arrived around 12:45 PM and it was perfect, it wasn’t packed or lonely. Sadly, the first-level play structure was closed but there were still plenty of fun activities to choose from! We started at the I CAN Grown area where you can play house/kitchen or play with water tables. Followed by playing doctor and then taking a ride on the life-size fire truck!
The first level also features an arts and crafts area where it looks like they hold workshops. A stage with all kinds of props and hula hoops! An underwater exhibition with a boat and submarine! A play restaurant and so much more!
The 2nd floor was every little boy’s dream! It was full of tracks, giant blocks, and an epic lego wall!!

Needless to say, the water table section was my son‘s favorite. I remember the first time we visited in 2018 – they provided aprons for the kids but this second time around there were none provided (probably due to Covid). My advice is either bring your own apron (this is the one I bought for future visits, you can also use it for art projects) or bring a change of clothes because if your kid is anything like mine – he won’t be able to get enough splashing in during your visit! (They get soaked)
Discovery Place Kids Huntersville is a winner in our book! They also host birthday parties and offer membership if you plan to come back on a regular basis. Check out AJ’s Discovery Place adventure and make sure to plan a visit of your own!
I wasn’t surprised when I had to drag my little guy out of there in tears, thankfully they have little gifts and knick-knacks you can buy on your way out, goo and a bouncy ball saved the day!
This awesome place is located in Huntersville, NC – a suburb right outside of Charlotte. Living in Charlotte and the surrounding areas you’ll learn that a lot of these fun places are sometimes located right outside of the Queen City.
